Cabled Christmas Stocking

Cabled Christmas Stocking

Taught by Jill Schroeder

  Date:  Tuesdays, July 11th, 18th & 25th

Time: 3 to 5 p.m.

Cost:  $60

Skills Gained: Braided cables, picking up stitches, basic sock construction, Kitchener stitch.

If you’ve always wanted to make Christmas stockings for your mantle, this is the year to start!  This stocking is a great way to ease your way into sock knitting too as it’s made the same way as a “regular” sock, just with larger needles and bigger yarn, so it doesn’t seem as scary.

Class pre-work:  Using the #6 needles, cast on 70 stitches and join to knit in the round.  K5P2 around.  Continue until the cuff measures approximately 6”.  It is absolutely necessary that this work be completed prior to the first class meeting.

2 skeins of Shepherd’s Wool or Cascade 220 (not superwash)

#6 and #7 16” circular needles and #7 double point needles (or #6 and #7 needles in your preferred method of working in the round, i.e. Magic Loop, 2 circulars, double points)

5 stitch markers

Cable needle (optional)

Darning needle
